Meet Our Veterinarian Team

I am Kristy Tackett the owner and lead veterinarian for Poteau Valley Veterinary Hospital. I graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Oklahoma State University in 2012. After graduation, I worked 7 years as an associate veterinarian in Enid, Oklahoma. In 2019, my family and I moved to Poteau when I bought Poteau Valley Veterinary Hospital from Dr. Chitwood.

One of the things I love about veterinary medicine is that every day offers new challenges. I enjoy taking on ophthalmology and wound care cases. Every day is different than the day before.

In my down time, you can find me spending time with my family at stock shows and the softball fields, often with Blue and Wrigley (my two dogs) tagging along. I also enjoy riding my horse (Charles) and hanging out with the Farm Managers Monroe and Ferdinand (aka the cats).

I am Dr. Lacey Whelan. I am an Oklahoma native and a 2012 alumna of Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine. My background is in rural mixed animal medicine but now I spend most of my days focusing on companion animal medicine. I enjoy the challenges of endocrinology and both soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries.

My family includes my husband, Michael, and our furry creatures. We have three dogs: Shadow, Brooks, and Dunbar as well as one silly black cat named Mortimer. When I am not in clinic you can often find me painting everything from watercolors to window art and a few other things in between. I also love spending time growing as many flowers as I possibly can.

I am Cheryl, the office manager/receptionist here at Poteau Valley Veterinary Hospital. I joined the practice in 1996. I have always loved veterinary medicine even at a young age. I started working here as a part-time employee (veterinary assistant / receptionist) and have been hooked on veterinary medicine ever since. I feel blessed to be working in a practice so passionate about the care for animals. I can say over the last 30 years I have never been bored with my work here at the clinic. There are always interesting new cases that have come to us for veterinary care. I love our clients as they have become my extended family over the years and getting to cherish their pets as they do is priceless.

Outside of the clinic, I enjoy spending time with family and friends. My husband and I have a small farm where we raise registered Quarter Horses and French Bulldogs. I know an interesting combination, never a dull moment at our farm! We love all the projects that come along with the horses and frenchies. I also love to read and do random crafts as time allows.

My name is Rachel and I am a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT). I graduated from OSU-OKC in 2021 and passed my national boards to obtain my RVT license. I have been in veterinary medicine for over 10 years now. I started as an assistant and receptionist and now work as an RVT.

One of the things I love about veterinary medicine is building lifelong relationships. I have been there from the very first puppy appointment all the way through to the golden years. Thank you to all of our wonderful clients for giving me the opportunity to love on and work with your pets .

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, crocheting, traveling, trying new foods, and recently I have picked up sewing. You usually will see me with my shadow, May the Frenchie (which if you have been around PVVH any she is usually helping man the front desk).
