Meet Our Veterinarian Team

Dr. Tackett purchased Poteau Valley Veterinary Hospital from Dr. Chitwood in 2019. She graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Oklahoma State University in 2012. She practiced in Enid, Oklahoma, for seven years before moving to Poteau, Oklahoma. She is a member of the AVMA, OKVMA, and Society for Theriogenology. Dr. Tackett enjoys working with dogs and cats, from their lifelong wellness care to treating illnesses and performing surgeries.

In her spare time, Dr. Tackett crochets, draws, and paints and enjoys the outdoors by hiking and bicycling with her husband, Kody, and two daughters. They have one cat named Monroe and two dogs, Wrigley and Millie.

Dr. Lacey J. Whelan is an Oklahoma native and a 2012 alumna of Oklahoma State University’s Center for Veterinary Health Sciences. After graduation, Dr. Whelan practiced mixed animal medicine in New York and Virginia before joining the Poteau Valley Vet team in 2021. Her special interests include small animal surgery and endocrinology.

Dr. Whelan’s family includes her husband, Michael, and their animals. They have two dogs, Ranger and Dunbar, and one cat, Nemo. She also enjoys watercolor painting and outdoor activities such as gardening and hiking.

My husband and I live on a small farm with 13 horses, three dogs (Cadie, Casey, and Jake), and four cats. We love to spend time on the farm and share time with our family. My hobbies include horseback riding, family vacations, and being outdoors.

Tamie has over 30 years of experience in customer service. She has been at the clinic since 2018. She has three dogs, three cats, and six horses. Tamie enjoys spending time with her family and horses.
